I will happily work with students from anywhere in the country as long as they have a reliable internet connection. I am located in Madison, Wisconsin. Students who live in the area have the option of meeting either in-person or online.
Students are required to provide their own computer throughout the process.
Essay Boot Camp
The essay boot camp is great for students who want to dedicate time to writing their essays in a compact amount of time. Spanning only four days, the boot camp is designed as intensive workshop-style sessions where the students move through all the necessary steps of the writing process. Students will have work to do outside of the boot camp sessions in order to keep up with the pace of progress.
The boot camp is conducted in a small group setting, either in person or online. The four sessions are 1.5 hours long each and take place on consecutive days of one week. By the end of the boot camp week, students will have a solid draft of an essay, meaning they should only need some light editing and proofreading before hitting “submit” on their application! The boot camps do not include one-on-one feedback meetings with Kat or final proofreading.
The Boot Camp is $360.
The 100-Level Course Package
The 100-Level Package is great for students who want to work on one personal statement (Common App/Coalition/etc.) with me before heading off to implement what they learned to complete the rest of the application on their own. The three 1.5-hour workshops are conducted in a small group setting. Sessions occur one week apart from each other on the same day of the week.
During each session, I spend time getting to know each student individually to better help them through the process. Through a combination of guided instruction and workshop time, students form a solid understanding of the college essay process as they write their story. We also cover recommendation letters and what students can do to help ensure the recommendation letters bolster their application materials.
Following the final group session, I meet with each student individually for a total of 60 minutes, which can be split into 15- or 30-minute meetings—whichever is more appropriate for the student’s needs. I provide an equal or greater amount of time providing feedback on the student’s draft prior to each meeting. Once the student has completed their essay and we are both satisfied with it, they send it to me for final proofreading.
This package equals 7 hours of my time and expertise working with each student and their essay.
The 100-Level Course Package is $575
200-Level Course Package
The 200-Level Package is designed for two types of students: those who are applying to multiple schools that all use different essay prompts and those who would like comprehensive guidance on completing multiple essays and prompts for one school. Regardless of which of those student groups you might be, I will navigate you through the creation of up to four pieces of writing.
Students who register for the 200-Level Package get the same group experience as students in the 100-Level Course; however, this package includes more workshop time and twice the amount of time during our individual meetings.
The five workshop sessions are 1.5 hours each. Once students have written their first drafts and sent them to me for content revision comments, we meet for individual feedback meetings of either 15 or 30 minutes (each) for a total of 120 minutes. I provide an equal or greater amount of time providing feedback on the student’s draft prior to each meeting. If the student does not have all drafts complete at the same time, we can break up the time to review what they have finished at different times.
After they’ve made all revisions and feel their essays/prompts are ready to go, I give all their work a final round of proofreading.
This package equals 12.5 hours of my time and expertise working with each student and their essay.
The 200-Level Course Package is $999
The Independent Study Package
The Independent Study Package is perfect for students who would like a completely individualized college essay experience. Students work with me one-on-one for the entire writing process.
I still cover the same material as in the 100-Level and 200-Level courses, but it is all tailored to your timeframe and needs. Whether it’s one essay or ten, purchasing the Independent Study Package ensures I provide you with the individualized guidance and feedback you need when you need it.
This base package equals 6.5 hours of my time and expertise working with each student and one essay. If a student has more than one essay they’d like my guidance on, they will need to purchase additional time with me.
If you live in the Madison, Wisconsin area, we have the choice of meeting in person, online, or a mix of both. If you do not live near Madison, we can easily conduct all sessions online.
Because the Independent Study Package is based on the needs of each student who registers, the price may vary according to their needs.

Add-on Essay/Response
I offer the Add-on Essay/Response option for those students who register for a course (100-Level, 200-Level, or Independent Study) and then realize they would like to get my help on more essays or short answer responses. Purchasing the Add-on Essay/Response allows the student to get the help they need on those extra writings without having to go through the whole course again. Each extra essay/response must be purchased separately.
I will provide feedback on two drafts, meet with the student twice (30 minutes each time), and provide a final proofread for each additional essay or response. This add-on equals 2.5 hours of my time and expertise working with the student and their additional essay.
The Add-on Essay/Response is only available for students who have already signed up for or participated in one of the course packages. It is not available on its own.
