College Essay GPS

Navigating you to an outstanding essay

Why work with College Essay GPS?

The college application process can be daunting, so why not get some guidance?

I navigate students through the writing process to ensure they produce their best work.

Students benefit from working with an experienced, engaging educator who understands teens and patiently guides them through the process.

Parents benefit by allowing Kat to be the one who sets the expectations and deadlines, thereby preserving the child-parent relationship and alleviating stress.

Clear, Step-by-step Process

From idea generation to revisions, and finally the polished essay, I provide continual guidance and feedback.

Individualized Attention

I work to quickly get to know each student, which allows me to tailor our time together to their strengths and needs.

Results

My students have been accepted to their schools of choice, such as Rice, Stanford, Howard, Tulane, UT-Austin Honors College, and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Philosophy

I empower and nurture each student by helping them find their voice, which helps them shine as an individual in their essay.

Experience

I hold a PhD in English Studies. Over the past two decades, I have helped thousands of high school and college students become better writers.

With the Supreme Court ruling against affirmative action last year, the importance of the essay in a student’s application has increased significantly. It is through the essay that schools are able to see who the student is as a person rather than just a set of scores and grades. It is imperative that students focus on writing essays and responses that highlight their unique characteristics, demonstrate their best skills, and illustrate who they are as individuals. I help bring out the stories that allow students to shine!

Get a jump on the 2025 Application Season!

Summer Boot Camps and Summer Courses are now open for registration.

Boot camps, intense workshop sessions spanning only a few days of your time, are designed to cover the essential writing process steps. Kat walks students through brainstorming, blueprinting, and drafting of their essays. By the time students leave, they will have solid drafts of their essays, meaning only a little editing should be needed before hitting “submit”!

Ready to complete your essay or essays this summer? From brainstorming to final proofreading, Kat will work with you to ensure you create writing you will be proud of! The essay courses include small group sessions with other students and one-on-one feedback sessions with Kat over several weeks.

My Happy Clients!

“Kat patiently guided me through the entire process, giving me awesome feedback along the way. At first, I was lost and didn't know how to go about writing this type of essay. By the end, I had an essay I was really proud to send to colleges. I couldn't have done it without her!”

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for encouraging me to think critically and express my thoughts in a clear and articulate manner. You helped me create a strong narrative in my college application essays. I got accepted at UT Austin, University of Florida, University of Illinois, and University of Miami. And although Cornell University (my top choice) didn’t accept me for fall 2022 because my program was already full for the year, they gave me a guaranteed transfer option for fall of 2023."
Amol D.
"Kat gave me so much more confidence in my essay! She showed me how to build on the themes I wanted to focus on and helped me write a concise essay that allowed my personality to shine through. Her advice was thorough and easy to understand, and I felt supported every step of the way."
